"A study published by the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology researches the male "reactance" — the tendency to do the exact opposite of what's requested by a loved one or boss. The study further investigates whether this phenomenon might occur at a subconscious level.
The experiments performed to test a man's laziness included asking participants to name a significant person they perceived as controlling their lives, and another who wanted them to have fun. Then, they were asked to make words from jumbled letters on a computer screen, while these two names they mentioned were flashed subliminally. The test showed that men were able to make words better, when exposed to the name of the one who wanted them to have fun."
Well, gee. this deserves thought, I think. Do I want to have fun or hang with controlling people? Hmmm... Why bother asking the test subjects? The sublime knows. Why not include women in this "study?" Too much trouble, I guess. Also, talk about the easy way out - when confronted with the need for a dictionary, make up a word instead. 'Reactance?' I can't find it anywhere.
